Steps to start volunteering at UGM
Our volunteer process has many parts because we serve a community that experiences a variety of vulnerabilities. We seek to create safe and welcoming spaces for them. One of the ways that we do this is by vetting new volunteers and setting up clear expectations so that everyone is safe and well cared for. Please note that some volunteer positions may require additional steps.

STEP FOUR: Attend an interview at UGM

The Gift of Transferable Skills
It’s an understatement to say that Deborah has experience with people. For 32 years, she worked as Director of Event Operations at BC Place, ensuring that stadium concerts, soccer games, and special presentations all went off without a hitch. “The event business has great similarities with what happens at UGM,” she says. “It’s about being amongst people.”
A New Outlook
Growing up with a parent who faced addiction and mental health challenges, Sandy developed a heart for others early on. “My dad struggled with an addiction to alcohol, and was what they called, at that time, ‘manic depressive,’” she recalls. “My parents divorced fairly early, so I grew up with a single mum and grandparents. I think that gives me empathy—I realize the impact that living in that kind of environment has on a person.”

Join UGM as we come alongside people affected by poverty, addiction, and homelessness. There are so many ways to get involved and to give such as giving monthly, or starting a fundraiser.
Engage Your Church
UGM provides churches with workshops, training, grants and other resources to strengthen programs in their own communities that help overcome poverty, homelessness and addiction.
