UGM Celebrating the Opening of Cedar Haven Women’s Recovery Centre in South Langley
‘Cedar Haven’ is a tranquil refuge for women to pursue recovery immersed in nature.
(Vancouver, B.C.) – After months of preparation and planning to create more addiction recovery options for women in B.C., Union Gospel Mission is excited to announce the official opening ceremony of the new Cedar Haven Women’s Recovery Centre. Located in South Langley, the 57-acre property has begun to be a healing oasis for women in recovery since July 1st, 2024.
The event will also address how UGM is using its proven trauma-informed recovery programming, combined with the serene rural property, to unlock addiction recovery and stabilization for women. The centre has 11 beds, a pottery studio, a gymnasium, and even farm animals.
“Our hope is that women will be able to find rest and healing surrounded by caring staff and an environment that feels safe and removed from overwhelming stressors,” said Tara MacDonald, the vice-president of women and families programming at Union Gospel Mission. “This is the first rural women’s recovery centre that Union Gospel Mission has opened so far, and we’re so excited to see how it enriches women’s lives in B.C.”
Union Gospel Mission has existing women’s recovery centres in Vancouver and most recently in Victoria, making recovery accessible and available for women in the province. This makes UGM one of the leading recovery service providers in B.C.
Cedar Haven Women’s Recovery Centre would not have been possible without Wagner Hills, a peer service provider. In 2023 Wagner Hills reached out to UGM to continue the Women’s Recovery Centre, as the team felt called to focus their efforts on Men’s Recovery. UGM was happy to step into their shoes and incorporate its own women’s programming. Cedar Haven now lives on as an example of two organizations coming together to make a difference and ensure people can access recovery no matter where they are in the province.
